Shiniushan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Eastern Fujian. The Shiniushan Formation was named by Feng Zongzhi (1991), representing the upper part of the Shimaoshan Group. The type locality is in Shiniushan of Nancheng, the Dehua County. The key section is the Xiangxi-Caixi section of the Xianyou County, Fujian (118º40', 25º33').
Lithology and Thickness
The Shiniushan Formation is dominated by a group of purple red volcanic-sedimentary rocks, and is divided into 2 members. Lower member is composed of purple red tuffaceous sandstone, siltstone, mudstone. Upper member is purple grey rhyolite tuff intercalated with rhyolite and thin-bedded tuffaceous siltstone. It is 1151.5 to 1911.5 m in thickness.

Lower contact
The Shiniushan Formation is disconformably on the underlying Zaixia Fm.

Regional extent
It occurs in Dehua, Yongtai and Minhou areas.

The sedimentary rocks of this formation contains fossils of plant Manica cf. parceramosa, Frenelopsis sp.; conchostracans Yanjiestheria sp., Orthestheria sp.
